SEARGEANT, Catherine Weitzel, 100, of Richmond, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry L. Seargeant; parents, George Edward and Belle Hooper Weitzel; and her sister, Helen W. Sherman. She is survived by her stepchildren, Gwynn Seargeant (Debbie) and Betsy Beasley; her loving sister, Ruth Alexander Phillips; her nieces, Barbara A. Baroody and Carol S. Lansinger; her nephews, Philip K. Sherman and D. Michael Alexander; and a host of other relatives and friends. Catherine graduated from Duke University with a Master's degree in education and was extremely dedicated to W. Fox Elementary School, where she taught for 35 years. She was the oldest member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, having served there since her youth. Special thanks go to her devoted caregivers, Danyell Thomas and Margaret Felder. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 22, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 520 N. Boulevard, Richmond, Va. 23220. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mark's Church.
